The Massachusetts Green High-Performance Data Center is a world-class 90,300 sqft 15-megawatt research computing and data center that is also the first-ever university research data center to achieve LEED Platinum Certification, consuming approximately 44% less energy than established baseline standards for comparable facilities.

It supports the growing research computing needs of Boston University, Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, and the University of Massachusetts. The main computer room houses nearly 10,000 high-performance computers and is nearly an acre in area.

The very aggressive construction schedule, coupled with post-contract design refinements, required a 3D CAD/BIM effort that narrowly preceded the actual field installation of massive quantities of conduit, cable tray, and wire. Precise coordination of all deliveries (as well as prompt placement, installation, and commissioning of all equipment and wiring) were required to achieve the challenging occupancy dates required by the multiple users of the data center.

Ducci’s electrical scope was complete and included all lighting, lighting control, lightning protection, power distribution, fire alarm, security, EPO, EPMS systems, and all mechanical equipment circuits. This further included complete 13.8KV medium voltage switchgear and transformers, generators and automatic transfer switches, load banks, unit substations, UPS units, all pre-purchased by Turner Logistics.
